Ferdinando De Cinque, avvocato, deputato e letterato, nasce a Casoli nel 1876 da una rilevante famiglia di notai della zona.

Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale, nel 1915, decide di arruolarsi volontariamente. Sono questi gli anni in cui va definendosi l’esclusiva ricetta: una miscela di alcool e botaniche creata durante il logorante imperversare della guerra, capace di scaldare cuori e animo di Ferdinando e dei compagni d’armi.

Ogni bottiglia ha un retro etichetta diverso (sette in totale) con citazioni tratte dalla raccolta di poesie e racconti di Ferdinando De Cinque dal nome Scheletri, cani, lupi e ninfee, pubblicata nel 1944. Inoltre è presente un foro sul fronte della etichetta dove si può intravedere attraverso il prodotto il quadro che fece da copertina nell’edizione originale del libro.

Ferdinando De Cinque, lawyer, deputy and man of letters, was born in Casoli in 1876 into a prominent family of notaries in the area.

During the First World War, in 1915, he decided to voluntarily enlist. These are the years in which the exclusive recipe is being defined: a mixture of alcohol and botanicals created during the exhausting rage of the war, capable of warming the hearts and souls of Ferdinand and his companions in arms.

Each bottle has a different back label (seven in total) with quotes taken from the collection of poems and stories by Ferdinando De Cinque entitled Skeletons, dogs, wolves and water lilies, published in 1944. There is also a hole on the front of the label where can glimpse through the product the painting that served as the cover of the original edition of the book.

Quale acqua tonica usare? / wich tonic water?

Abbiamo provato questo gin con varie toniche, quella che han bilanciato meglio il gin tonic è la Fever Tree Mediterranea, la quale risalta bene le note balsamiche del pino mugo e della menta con le note erbacee della savia e del timo che ricoprendo il palato bilanciano le note balsamiche con quelle floreali della rosa e della lavanda con un finale leggermente dolce dato dal finocchio.

Segnaliamo anche un abbinamento con la San Pellegrino Rovere, in quanto permette di sentir meno le note balsamiche della menta e pino mugo, risaltando di più le note amarognole e floreali.

We tried this gin with various tonics, the one that balanced the gin and tonic best is the Mediterranean Fever Tree, which highlights the balsamic notes of mountain pine and mint well with the herbaceous notes of sage and thyme which, covering the palate, balance the balsamic notes with the floral ones of rose and lavender with a slightly sweet finish given by fennel.

We also recommend a pairing with San Pellegrino Rovere, as it allows you to feel less of the balsamic notes of mint and mountain pine, highlighting the bitter and floral notes more.

COSA CI PIACE E COSA NO / WHAT WE LIKE AND WHAT WE DON’T

Ci piace in particolar modo l’etichetta presente sulla bottiglia, in quanto guardando attraverso l’apertura centrale è possibile vedere una riproduzione della copertina di un’opera cara a Ferdinando De Cinque.

Ci piace il profumo che emana appena aperta la bottiglia, al naso arriva subito la nota balsamica data dal pino mugo e dalla menta seguita poi dalla nota floreale ed erbacea della lavanda e rosmarino.

Ci piace bevuto liscio, in quanto al palato arrivano subito le note balsamica del pino mugo e della menta, con le note floreali della rosa e lavanda che bilanciano le varie botaniche, in particolar modo con la nota erbacea del rosmarino e del timo con la salvia che ricopre la lingua. Un gin davvero ottimo da gustarsi liscio dopo pasto con o senza ghiaccio.

We like it drunk straight, as the balsamic notes of mountain pine and mint immediately arrive on the palate, with the floral notes of rose and lavender balancing the various botanicals, in particular with the herbaceous note of rosemary and thyme with sage that covers the tongue. A truly excellent gin to be enjoyed neat after a meal with or without ice.
