Nasce dall’unione tra la maestria Trentina e l’unicità dei prodotti calabresi. Acqua incontaminata d’alta quota delle Dolomiti. Alcol da creali di altissima qualità. Botaniche in lunga macerazione nell’alcol (almeno 4 mesi): bacca di Ginepro, peperoncino della Locride, bergamotto. Doppia distillazione di tutta la massa dopo i 4 mesi di macerazione.

Piccolo cenno sul nome:

Un po’ di storia sul Bergamotto da cui prende il nome il Premium Luxury Gin di Rupes:

Correva il XXVII secolo “Nec pluribus impar” ma il bergamotto calabrese sembrava dovesse nutricare soltanto i bovini con le sue profumate scorze, trovando preziosa connotazione nella filiera di scarto e riciclo sostenibile. Nel secolo del “Re Sole”, le nobiltà europee curavano la persona incipriandosi con preziose polveri, profumandosi con estratti di aceto balsamico, olii lampanti e quanto più di moda avanzava; d’altronde il profumo come lo concepiamo noi oggi altro non è che una moda: “de gustibus non disputandum est”!

In questo spaccato contemporaneo fa ingresso sulla scena un gelatiere siciliano, tra i migliori d’Europa che, a sua insaputa, contribuisce all’invenzione più importante della storia della profumeria.

Diretto a Varsailles, reclutato dal re francese in persona per deliziare con le sue creazioni tutti i palati della nobiltà che gli ruotava, Luigi XXVI che Nec pluribus impar, ovvero splende come il sole e non può essere paragonato a nessun altro, durante il suo viaggio passando da Scilla (Rc) incontra un carro che trasportava scorze di bergamotto, queste destinate per pochi spiccioli al bestiame di ricchi massari che avevano intuito gli aspetti benefici per il bestiame. Catturata la sua attenzione le acquista per realizzare un gelato alternativo per tutti i cortigiani. Continuando il viaggio, arrivato a Colonia, incontra per caso un “naso” profumiere, futuro inventore del profumo più longevo, pregiato e conosciuto al mondo: l’Acqua di Colonia. L’ingrediente segreto diventa il Bergamotto, “Principe degli Agrumi” passando di mano in mano silenziosamente facendosi largo magicamente fino a diventare l’ingrediente più altisonante di Principum Gin.

A bit of history about the Bergamot from which Rupes’ Premium Luxury Gin takes its name:

It was the 27th century “Nec pluribus impar” but the Calabrian bergamot seemed to only feed cattle with its fragrant peels, finding a precious connotation in the waste and sustainable recycling supply chain. In the century of the “Sun King”, European nobility took care of their skin by powdering themselves with precious powders, perfuming themselves with extracts of balsamic vinegar, lampante oils and whatever was most fashionable; on the other hand, perfume as we conceive it today is nothing more than a fashion: “de gustibus non disputandum est”!

In this contemporary cross-section, a Sicilian ice cream maker, among the best in Europe, enters the scene and, without his knowledge, contributes to the most important invention in the history of perfumery.

Headed to Varsailles, recruited by the French king himself to delight with his creations all the palates of the nobility that revolved around him, Louis XXVI who Nec pluribus impar, or shines like the sun and cannot be compared to anyone else, during his journey passing through Scilla (Rc) he encounters a wagon carrying bergamot peels, destined for a few pennies to the livestock of rich farmers who had understood the beneficial aspects for the livestock. Having caught his attention, she buys them to make an alternative ice cream for all the courtiers. Continuing his journey, having arrived in Cologne, he accidentally meets a perfumer “nose”, future inventor of the longest-lasting, most prized and best-known perfume in the world: Eau de Cologne. The secret ingredient becomes Bergamot, the “Prince of Citrus Fruits”, silently passing from hand to hand, magically making its way until it becomes the most high-sounding ingredient of Principum Gin.

Questa limited edition del loro classico gin è davvero interessante, la presenza del peperoncino arricchisce la già interessante ricetta aggiungendo un tocco di Calabria in più al già noto bergamotto. Un gin che richiama decisamente i sapori di questa bella regione del Sud ricca di territorio misto tra mare e montagna.

Quale acqua tonica usare? / wich tonic water?

Abbiamo provato questo gin con varie toniche, quella che bilancia meglio il gin tonic è la Malafemmena in quanto permette di assaporare in modo molto bilanciato il tutto, con una nota iniziale agrumata e fresca del bergamotto accompagnata dalla nota leggermente speziata del peperoncino e del ginepro, in modo che nessuna botanica sovrasti l’altra, permettendo di godersi un ottimo gin tonic bilanciato.

COSA CI PIACE E COSA NO / WHAT WE LIKE AND WHAT WE DON’T

Ci piace il profumo che fuoriesce appena aperta la bottiglia, al naso arriva subito la nota agrumata e fresca del bergamotto e la nota speziata del peperoncino calabrese seguito dalle note del ginepro, per un abbinamento di odori davvero unico e piacevole.
Ci piace bevuto liscio in quanto la palato arriva subito la nota speziata e calda del peperoncino seguito dalle note fresche e agrumate del bergamotto con note finali di ginepro, per un sapore che persiste al palato per molto tempo dando una sensazione fresca e speziata davvero piacevole.
